December Friendship Update

Date: December 12, 2010 Author: admin Categories: Uncategorized

December’s lifeskill is “Caring”: to feel and show concern for others. During December, all Brittan Acres students are learning about the lifeskill of caring.

The students are discussing what caring sounds like and looks like in the classroom and on the playground. They are learning about caring body language – making the circle bigger when another student approaches and smiling, for example. They are also identifying body language that is not caring, like eye rolling or closing the circle when someone approaches.

The children are all being challenged to write down one small change they will make this month to demonstrate more caring behavior in their classroom, on the playground or at home. You can extend and reinforce their learning by discussing caring at home.

Children’s books are a great way to start a conversation about caring. Below are some you might check out and read with your child. The San Carlos Library is a great resource for these books.
