As Mr. Triska mentioned in this week’s principal’s message, Brittan Acres was awarded a Kellogg Foundation mini-grant. The purpose of the grant is to promote children’s learning and well-being through creating or enhancing learning communities of parents, educators and community members. This important work will be informed and guided by the research described in the book, Mind in the Making: Seven Essential Lifeskills Every Child Needs by Ellen Galinsky.

We are excited to invite parents to join the learning community that BA staff members formed this year as we studied this book together. Next school year, there will be a parent/staff book group, online communication and discussion, along with a special community event to promote this important work. You can get a head start by picking up the book this summer. Stay tuned for more information in the fall and go to mindinthemaking.org (scroll down to the March 10, 2011 article) for more specifics about the mini-grant.
