Hello Brittan Acres Community.

California’s New Child Passenger Safety Law effective January 1, 2012
We will all be following the new California law that states the following:

“Children under the age of 8, or under 4 feet 9 inches in height must be secured in a car seat or booster seat. Additionally, children under age 8 must be secured in the back seat.”

At Brittan Acres, this will mean changes for some of our parent drivers on field trips. If you volunteer to drive on a field trip, your classroom teacher will require you to be certain all of your student riders are in compliance. The law states that all children will need to ride in the back seat in a properly secured child passenger safety restraint until they are at least 8 years old, or until they are at least 4 feet 9 inches in height.

So, if you haven’t already, please purchase the appropriate car seats or booster seats for your children, and be sure to send them to school with your child on field trip days!

For more information, here is a link to the California Highway Patrol on the subject of the new law.

Thank you!
John Triska
