Hello BA community.

Parent Education Night a Big Success
Wednesday evening’s event, “Raising Resilient Children in a Complex World: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs,” was a wonderful success, thanks all of you who participated! Families enjoyed dinner together, received a copy of Ellen Galinsky’s groundbreaking Mind in the Making, and while children were provided child-care, over 115 parents attended child-development expert Gloria Moskowitz-Sweet’s research-based presentation exploring ways we can reflectively parent and teach to support better outcomes for our children and families. Afterwards, many signed up to participate in a MITM book club. All this, and at no fee to participants!

The night was made possible due to a fantastic team: please join me in thanking PTA’s amazing Mindi Romanowsky, Sara Mancini, and Julie Juergens; and our remarkable Friendship Counselor Karin Bloom. Childcare for over 70 children was donated by SCSD’s SMART-E program, many thanks to director Mary Carbullido and BA’s own SMART-E afterschool staff, among others. We also thank our former Friendship Counselor Laura Macfarlane for her insightful leadership putting this program on the horizon for us last year.

Mind in the Making Grant
Last spring, Brittan Acres was awarded one of 35 Kellogg Foundation Mind in the Making grants currently funding community, state, or national nonprofit organizations in 22 states. The goal of BA’s grant is to create community around the research on children’s learning from birth through the early elementary school years. As a result, BA parents and educators, and other family support and health professionals are joining together to learn from and with each other.

More to come—Save March 21
If you missed out on this last opportunity, don’t despair. Just save the date for our next Parent Education event Wednesday night, March 21: “The Magic Continues: Raising Resilient Children in a Race To Nowhere World.” Wednesday night’s evaluations indicate a 95% intention to attend that next event as well, and I know your many conversations with each other will only add to the anticipation.

What an exciting time to be working with all of you at Brittan Acres!

Best wishes,
John Triska
