Principal’s Message 4/1/13

Date: April 1, 2013 Author: kristin Categories: Principals Message

Hello BA community.

Boundless Learning
As we anticipate the future of our schools, our in-process district strategic planning calls for “boundless learning,” suggesting that learning should take place in a variety of real and virtual venues, not just inside the four walls of the traditional classroom. Here at BA outdoor education is already occurring in our BUGS garden and bog, and teachers and students take advantage of the additional learning spaces provided by our classroom patios—weather permitting. Technology provides additional, virtual learning spaces, and teachers and students tap learning environments on the web using their laptops and projectors, as will as iPads, and soon Chrome books in a 4th grade pilot.

New Reading Garden
I’m excited to announce the gift of another, new outdoor learning space for our students: the “Reading Garden” situated at the end of our first wing, behind Room 4. This mini-park is a gift of Love Works, a volunteer offshoot of a local church with students here at BA. The many, hardworking people who got together over break and created this for our school wish to remain anonymous, but our own PTA Special Projects chief, Cynthia Wiggin, can share details if you need more information. The magnificent mural behind the garden was prepped and painted by BA parents and volunteers from Love Works, as well—and features thumb and hand prints of all our Kindergartners and their teachers doubling as flowers, butterflies, and fish!

I know you’ll join me in thanking the many BA and Love Works volunteers who made this possible.

Gratefully yours,
John Triska
