ROPES is Coming!

Date: October 23, 2014 Author: admin Categories: Community Partner News, District News, Featured, News, School News

ROPES is the Rite OPassage Experienceprogram that is specifically designed as an optional enrichment activity that culminates a cycle of a student’s education (early mastery, intermediate mastery, advanced mastery).  ROPES is an opportunity for students to participate in an academic ritual involving personally selected real-life learning experiences.  The ROPES project gives students in fourth, sixth and eighth grade opportunities to explore and demonstrate project based learning.  Over the next few years, we will be transitioning from fourth, sixth and eighth grade to third, fifth and eighth grade, which will ultimately align with the school transitions of our newly reconfigured Preschool-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade, and 6th-8th grade schools.

This year ROPES will be open to fourth, sixth and eighth grade students just as we have done in the past.  Next year (2015-2016), however, we will begin transitioning to the new model by adding a third grade option (but still keeping fourth, sixth and eighth grades).  This way, all students will have the same opportunity to receive three ropes by the time they graduate from middle school.  For a better understanding of ROPES or to get a better understanding of when your child would be able to participate or more information on the program visit the district’s website at: http://www.scsdk8.org/learning/project-based-learning/ropes/.
