Hello BA community.

Hour of Code

Computational thinking is one of the new Common Core Math Standards. Over the next two weeks, our students will partake in an international project called “Hour of Code.” The object is for students to experience learning to utilize computer language to make something work. Some of you are engaged in coding everyday, but it remains a mystery for too many of us, considering all the ways we take advantage of computational thinking in our lives! I encourage you to take some time yourselves to learn more about coding, by visiting

School Site Council

On our next School Site Council agenda for Thursday, December 8, SCSD’s Director of 21st Century Learning and Educational Technology Dr. Tom Keating will discuss school surveys for outcomes from our work to improve learning, school climate, and communication. We will hear from SCSD’s Wellness Coordinator Mindy Hill and address BA’s School Health Index. Also, we will begin the first steps of renewing BA’s Charter status, which I’ll talk more about that in coming messages. School Site Council meetings are held at 3:00 in the school office conference room, and you are welcome to attend.

Lunch Heroes?

To our hungry students, the volunteers that help serve lunch are heroes—in the right place at the right time, solving an important problem. I’d like to thank this year’s PTA volunteers Stasia Hause, Rachel Moylan, Mary Ellen Fraser, Maiko Green, Kate Pfaff, Harry Aroyan, Fabiana Galea, and coordinator Erica Zanardi. At this time, we are needing volunteers to help at lunchtime on Wednesdays and every other Monday and Thursday. (When you volunteer, you receive a credit of $9 towards lunches!) If you can be a “Lunch Hero” for one of those days, please email Erica at, thank you!

Best wishes,

John Triska
