Hello BA families.

Last week I joined a district team attending the EdLeader21 5th annual event in Dallas on Wednesday and Thursday– which explains my jet-lagged affect if you interacted with me Friday at BA!

It was an amazing conference of workshops and conversations around the new ways we are endeavoring to work with our students at BA and in the district, to better match expectations for their learning throughout their schooling, in college and eventually careers.

Some of the BIG IDEAS that resonated with me:

  • Our classrooms must address the skills and abilities that are required in the workplace today and tomorrow– and the 5Cs (Critical thinking and problem solving, Communication, Collaboration, Citizenship both global and local, Creativity and innovation) that we embed in our daily practice here at BA and in the district are the way to do that.
  • Our goal– yours as parents and ours at school– is to build active learners who are engaged in/take ownership of their learning, and are motivated by the intrinsic rewards in creating quality work.
  • In the new world of work– from which we need to plan backwards– content matters, skills matter more, but motivation/ownership matters most.
  • Our emphasis on the whole child– the academic learner, the social and emotional learner, the fine artist, musician, and performer, and the integrated physical learner– is right on target and supports our mission perfectly.

I came home invigorated and enthusiastic for this work we are doing together, and thank you for your interest and engagement, as well.

Best wishes,

John Triska
