Hello BA families. A few thoughts this week:

  1. Thursday’s Great California Shake-Out drill here at BA was an excellent success. Our students followed directions and were patient throughout. Our staff implemented protocols and procedures, and  came up with suggestions to improve our practice to keep us safe during a real emergency.
  2. Thursday afternoon our School Site Council hosted BA Counselor Kim Arasato and Director of 21st Century Learning and Educational Technology Dr. Tom Keating. Ms. Arasato shared her programs at Brittan Acres this year, and in particular described the new Second Step curriculum we are utilizing to support our students’ growth mindset and social/emotional skills. Here is her Counseling Services slide deck, for your information.
  3. Dr. Keating explained how Common Core Standards are being addressed in the new Smarter Balanced assessments, and helped interpret BA’s first ever 3rd and 4th grade results from these tests last Spring. Here is his SBAC slide deck, for your information.
  4. Yesterday I enjoyed participating in the 5K Mustang Stampede, a brisk walk for me, and a vigorous run for many of the CMS students and families participating. Our Walk-A-Jog this Sunday will be a wonderful combination of fitness and fun, too. If you are a new family participating for the first time, get ready for a fantastic day of BA community!

Best wishes,

John Triska
