Hello BA families,

Last Wednesday visiting teachers and administrators from Burlingame School District visited a number of SCSD Kindergarten through Second Grade classrooms to see Project Based Learning in action. Here at Brittan Acres they observed Ms. Lee’s Kindergarten students presenting their opinion writing about favorite fruits and vegetables to Preschooler friends– one of the culminating activities for their Healthy Food Choices PBL.

They also witnessed Ms. Mencher’s second graders working in collaborative groups, creating presentations for their PBL: What Makes a Good Classroom Community Member?

Our guests highlighted their impressions that our classrooms were filled with engaged, eager children involved in exciting conversations and activities. They recognized that the students own their work, and that their teachers are creating the conditions for this to flourish in their classrooms.

Their appreciation for our school made me realize how lucky I am to be immersed in this work, surrounded by innovative teachers and students who are passionate about teaching and learning.

Best wishes,
John Triska
