Principal’s Message 1/19/2016

Date: January 19, 2016 Author: Michelle Marchena Curtis Categories: Featured, Principals Message

Hello BA families,

Following this ML King weekend– a time when we think about living lives of impact and justice– I’d like to remind you that the greatest gifts we can give aren’t for sale.

You may know that many Brittan Acres children who need extra support in reading, writing, or math get that help from volunteer tutors: “regular” moms, dads, grandparents, and even high school students who meet their tutees here once a week for 45 minute sessions. These community heroes are part of the Healthy Cities tutoring program that matches volunteers with students needing extra academic support during the school day or after school.

BA currently has a waiting list of 12 students in need of a tutor. Would you consider becoming a Healthy Cities volunteer?

Healthy Cities is holding a tutor orientation session 6:30-7:00 on February 2nd at at the Central Middle School library. It will be followed by a training from 7:00-8:30.

You can visit the Healthy Cities website to learn more about being an HC tutor and complete an application. Or you can contact the volunteer site coordinators at BA, Cynthia Wiggin and Joyce Strauss, or call the H.C. office at 650-508-7327.

By giving the gift of your time, you can make a real difference in a child’s success at school. And I will let you in on a secret: it will make a difference in your life, as well.

Thank you, and best wishes!

John Triska
